When considering stress, most of those in our community automatically think fixing a stoppage in your weapon whilst on the move or being stuck in traffic after rounds took too long on a Friday morning. Rarely does it think of the stress caused by an extended period of poor nutrition or the physiological stress of three nights of limited and broken sleep.
To understand stress and the impact it can have we must firstly understand how the body deals with it. To stay alive the human body must keep a variety of bodily functions within tight parameters, such as body temperature, blood glucose levels and blood pressure. The process of keeping these functions within their parameters is known as homeostasis.
